I never considered the aerodynamics of a crustacean are better than a car’s

    1. well, yeah. Both water and air are fluids, so for something to be able to efficiently move through water means they would also move efficiently through air.

    2. No crap i have put 5 windshields in my jeep since i bought it, the windshield sits almost vertical and any rocks hit it cracks it lol

    3. This is probably true for almost any sea creature. It’s a lot more difficult to travel through water than through air.

    4. What’s funny is the picture for the jeep is air intake not air resistance but no one notices because hur dur jeep funny

    5. Hydrodynamics, in the case of a lobster.

Fwiw, a dolphin is more hydrodynamic than any mainstream production car is aerodynamic, and by an order of magnitude.

Water is about 800x denser than air, but despite this, hydrodynamic modeling estimates the drag coefficient (Cd) of a dolphin as being less than 0.01.

In comparison, the most aerodynamic mainstream production cars (e.g. a Tesla model S or Mercedes-EQS) have a drag coefficient of just over 0.2. Even the very‑limited‑production and ultra‑aerodynamic Volkswagen XL1 (photo below) had a Cd of 0.199.

I’ve scuba-dived with/close to dolphins on quite a few occasions and can attest to their astonishing ease of movement. I’ve dived with seals, too, and they must come very close in term of hydrodynamics -‑ but they’re mammals, so that might be confusing whatever this discussion is about 🙂

    6. If the lobster isn’t aerodynamic, he does and his body plan is wiped from the evolutionary journey. If the jeep is not aerodynamic, the driver still lives, but is stricken with being a knob.

The Wrangler is based on the WWII Jeep — which evolved from a phonetic G.P., for General Production. It was *never* meant to be aerodynamic, just meant to do the basics the military needed on an insane scale.

      I mean of course?

A lobster needs to move through water, of course it’s more aerodynamic than something which only needs to move through air.

    9. With that vertical windshield, I can’t say I’m surprised. Whynot compare it to something like a sports car?

    10. Acting like air isn’t a fluid…. Of course the sea dwelling thing has existed for millions of years is streamlined…. Wtf is this post.
