    1. Having an interest in any historical society when everyone tries to project political and social narratives on them be like.

The USSR did some objectively horrendous things, but they also did some objectively morally-benificial things as well.

There’s a reason they mirrored the US as a global superpower during the Cold War so well.

Because they were doing a ton of the same things as the Yanks, and it’s only realized in retrospect because of Red-Scare propaganda of the past century.

That’s not to say they didn’t kind of suck, but that same logic can be applied to the Americans, or the Brits, or the French or Chinese.

Thinks are more often grey, than black and white, with some pockets of black and white within.

The USSR did a few good things, just like how the Nazis pressed an anti-smoking campaign and built a lot of highways. Still, both the 3. Reich and the USSR were totalitarian shitholes that inevitably ended up on the junkyards of history, and rightfully so.

    5. Oh my god I need tge name of this song. I rememner it being a huge thing in memes like 2 years ago

How bad it was varied a lot by era. Stalin? Awful. Gorbachev? Decent. Arguably the Russian Federation is worse than Gorbachev’s Soviet Union.

    7. I mean, the USSR has a dark history of internal purges and famine so bad it was named similarly to the holocaust. (Holodomor)

It was an extremely ineffective government to say the least.

    8. I’m still trying to understand what a tanky is (I just heard it for the first time the other day and had to look it up) and whether or not it applies to me. I’m a (non-anarcho) communist, but I look at the USSR and PRC as examples of why we shouldn’t try to speedrun communism.

    9. I’m deeply fascinated by the question of whether or not the USSR was bad or not. I have watched several videos of people exploring and visiting these old Soviet towns. The people always say how wonderful the town was and how much the loved the SU. Not many people said how terrible things were. Now, those places are empty and destroyed. Obviously, we have those types of towns here in America. It’s an interesting thing to think about. (Bald an bankrupt YouTube Channel for those interested)

How much of what we hear about the Soviet Union is propaganda?

    10. Is there someone who would genuinely get this angry over someone saying that nazis were bad?

I have zero issue when someone wants to just learn things and not judge anyone. You do yours. But getting genuinely angry at someone thinking that a state murdering tens of millions of its own citizens and millions of other people is le bad thing is such odd thing to me…

Like I can understand why a tankie would do that. But someone who just like learning about history doing that is just weird to me. Especially when it is very recently history.

USSR did good things and bad things

There, I’ve now pissed off the entire polical spectrum

    12. Well, if you’re from a former soviet country, you can definitely say “fuck the USSR”. The damage they did was, and still is, immense, they stole decades of progress from us.
