Imo doesn’t count. Oxygen assisted, that is like these clowns saying fastest skater while being towed by a fucking race car.

Fun fact: the atmosphere is approx 21% oxygen, our lungs nap that and our blood takes it around the body.
These dudes breath in pure oxygen at like 96-100%, I assume thats how this is possible, like supercharging your body with oxyg.

You all desperately need to listen to the podcast about how the Croatian team have been doping free diving for years. It’s called Deep Water and it’s by The Observer.
What this guy is doing is clearly cheating.

Yahoo! news is just so fucking weird.

As already mentioned, a lot more to this than what the headline implies. Nothing interesting about it.

Even if we forget that he did not freedive, so the heading is misleading, this has been on iaf a gadzillion times, these are just the ones mentioning him by name in the heading:
It’s Yahoo!, their journalist probably found the story on their crushes Facebook page.

I go for long runs but I don’t tell people I ran 80 miles when I was on a bicycle. Filling my lungs with concentrated oxygen is pretty much the same thing.

It’s an impressive accomplishment, but I’d be worried about the long term neurological effects of oxygen deprivation.

Doesn’t this cause mild brain damage?

I can almost do that, just need to hold it for another 29 minutes.

Honestly, reading this doesn’t make me feel inspired—it just makes me feel heavy. There is something deeply unsettling about watching someone push their body that far past the breaking point.
I can’t help but wonder what’s actually left of a person after a stunt like this. We all know what happens when the brain is starved of oxygen for that long; it’s not just a physical feat, it’s a slow erosion. While the world cheers for the record, I’m just thinking about the brain cells flickering out in the silence of that water.
It feels less like “human potential” and more like a slow goodbye to oneself. You’d have to already be a bit detached from reality—maybe even not have all your marbles left—to even want this. Is a spot in a record book really worth trading away your long-term mental clarity?
It’s heartbreaking to think that by the time they achieve the fame they’re looking for, they might not even be the same person anymore. Some prices are just too high to pay.

I mean, cool. But also, guaranteed brain damage. Just bc you *can* do it doesn’t mean you *should*.
