    1. What’s the context?

Edit. Thanks for the informative replies y’all. Impressive show of dissent, but I wonder if it will result in anything practical…

Meanwhile people are being abducted in the US by ICE and they aren’t doing anything

I live in Belgium next to Brussels. Taking the highway Thursdat at 8am away from Brussels to Leuven it was very impressive to see coloums of tractors blocking the highway and traffic as far as the eye could see. At least the message was clear and reached the EU.

    4. If the trade deal doesn’t go through, the median European will just become poorer. These folks are only protecting their own interests, not the interests of their fellow citizens.

Just so you guys know, you can buy sets of universal keys online that will operate most tractor equipment in the country. In case you don’t want the farmers to have all the fun.

As an American, I am always fascinated to see this kind of protest. Notice the police backing away from the tractor vs immediately liquidating the driver

    7. This wouldn’t work in America. John Deere would remotely deactivate the equipment, then they would sell the unlock codes to the police for a small fortune

    8. I remember being an intern at the European Parliament maaaaaaanny years ago and the days when farmers would protest were always intense. With barbed wire all around the building and a lot of shit (sometimes literally) on fire.

You can do this there and not automatically go to jail? Like I can drive a tractor into a whole squadron of police officers in Brussels and make it home for dinner?

    10. Imagine what we could have here in the US if our farmers were chronically scared of everything and everyone and they didn’t assume any city over 40k in population were war zones. 😮‍💨

    11. Man, our protests could use some tractors and manure, apparently.  Do these guys do seminars?

    12. Raised in Brussels.

This isn’t the first time they came; last time, it was MUCH bigger, and longer. Walked home because of how busy the streets were. Basically they paralyzed the city. It’s really insane to witness.

Police talks a lot of shit about how other protesters here are violent, how they cause problems because they pushed down a mobile fence or threw a pebble at a police car. Then these farmer fellas come and sweep ten roadblocks at once with a tractor. And when they fight the police, they *fight the police*. It’s next level protesting.

This time around, they flooded a busy place with potatoes, so many cars got stuck trying to drive over lol. There’s even a video of a guy shouting something like “you should have brought your potato tires!”

I love the Belgians. The are a cross between Dutch pragmatism and French overexcitement

    14. I noticed some of those tractors are John Deere. Yall remember that whole thing about them being able to brick the tractors from the states through remote shut off? I can’t remember what the exact scenario was. I think the Russians stole some Ukrainian farm owned John Deere tractors, so John Deere disabled them. That was the big headline at least. But it raised concerns of “do you actually own it” if your gear can be shut off thousands of miles away.

Anyway, I wonder if the green ones are just sitting there because John Deere just shut them thangs down.

    15. I don’t give a fuck about mercosur but just for once I would like these farmers to face the same consequences as the tamest climate activists did…

    16. This is why I find the people in the UK using leaving the EU as a way to criticise UK farmers when the reality is farming is not plain sailing

    17. Just two weeks ago I saw German police in my area beating down plenty of young woman for protesting against the AfD with some wild force that my sheltered self didn’t expect and these bois have the time of their life’s demonstrating, lmfao.

European farmers continuing their time honored tradition of demanding the EU make food more expensive for everyone so they can make more money. They represent 1% of the population but 25% of the EU budget goes to them, and how they hate the system that enriches them for not giving them even more.

I’m surprised that tractor has enough torque with how heavy that farmer’s balls are

    20. No matter where you go in the world, if you want some useful idiots for political purposes just go find some farmers.

    21. You see that America?(Am burgercin) Dude’s going in there with a tractor and no one’s shot him.
