That’s literally all it is they literally think they will be a wealthy person one day when in reality 2 or 1 missed paycheck will literally kill most of them

    1. I don’t really care in the “poor people shouldn’t be allowed to buy junk food” sense. My bigger issue is that I don’t like that it’s easier for most SNAP recipients to get theirs hands on processed junk food than fresh meat and produce even though produce is way cheaper pound for pound.

Nah, if you’re on government assistance you should have restrictions. Otherwise you reinforce and reward bad habits. Kids in need should be eating vegetables and fresh food, not chips and soda. Not even in a “my taxes” point of view, it’s what’s best for the community.

If you wanna buy junk use your own money. No one is stopping you.

I love how people assume that being on snap is like a truckload of money being dumped on your lawn every month. When in reality it’s $2 and you have to sing “I’m a little teapot” every month or they take your $2 away.

    4. The argument against SNAP being used on “junk food” totally overlooks that people who are financially vulnerable also live in areas without proper grocery stores ie Food Deserts.

If the only place you can spend you SNAP is a local corner store, how the fuck you going to expect them to get salad?

    5. The gov also uses your tax money to buy junk food for troops.

That same money goes to “disabled” vets. People getting 4-8k/mo from gov while also being able to physically work a full time job.

But yea let’s fight about the single mother of 2 getting $100/mo for SNAP who can’t accept a $3/hr raise because it’ll kick her out of qualifying for benefits

    6. They don’t understand the idea of just helping people without making it some form of control. Combine that with the Evangelicals preaching that having money is a sign of favor from god and no surprise you end up with a broken welfare system.

    7. I care more about billionaires only paying 8.2% in taxes than some person on food stamps getting a sweet treat

    8. I don’t live in the states. Over here our assistance is given in the form of cash. People getting assistance can buy what ever they want. I think if someone qualifies for assistance they should get that assistance with no restrictions. Some people don’t have access to full kitchens never mind the time it takes to cook from scratch. It’s like people totally forget hard working people are underpaid and need help, something unexpected can happen and a person can need help.

    9. SNAP is a problem but the retired old people who collect social security I see leaving the stores with a whole cart full of full fat Dr Pepper and Coke is fine?

    10. You have to wonder how much money junk food companies spent on lobbying to make sure they were allowed to be purchased with SNAP, their marketing budget, and their research and development budget to make the food more addicting.

    11. Regular_Plankton_530 on

That’s basically each daily conversation of my MAGA coworkers. Each fckn day with their “if I have to work…” Today it was: why do we have to offer a program to help those who can’t pay their power bills if they go out to get their nails done? They don’t need our help they said. Coming back to work to the office has been horrendous.

    12. Front_Mousse1033 on

Also food deserts are a thing. I used to live in an area where you had to drive a ways out to get to an actual grocery store. But of course there was a dollar general and a liquor store within walking distance.

    13. We can give funding for oil companies but not to people to buy food from American food companies. That’s so weird.

    14. People lose their mind when their tax dollars go to a poor person buying a pack of starburst but turn a blind eye when programs like social security are cut so billionaires can buy another yacht. so backwards

    15. KaputtEqu1pment on

This is so stupid. Ideally what should happen is fresh & healthy(er) food becoming more accessible and affordable than what it currently is.

People make a fuss about someone buying twinkies is misplaced when the entire food chain is spiked with heavy metals, micro plastics, additives, and so on; however, this is a story for another time.

The caloric density of a Twinky, honeybun, bag of Cheetos is far higher than a salad, an apple, or whatever fresh food is available for a fraction of the cost, so of course someone on a budget is going to buy the “junk”.

Unfortunately, this shit is so bad that it causes bigger issues down the road: obesity, hbp, diabetes, etc that then further place a larger strain medicare/.Medicaid on an exponentially larger scale than it would cost rather than simply increasing the snap budget so someone can buy some fresh food.

But no, let a bro have a duckin Twinky or a bag of chips, I’m all for it. After all, we got money for ballrooms, trains… Err .. Planes for deportation, private security for certain people, and of course tax cuts for billionaires, just to name a few

      Wild man

    16. People kill me acting like they give a fuck about the health of poor people. Cut the bullshit! These same people will also get upset if someone on SNAP buys a steak.

    17. We’re blowing up people in boats who have no weapons, who may not have drugs, ***but aren’t even headed towards the USA***, but sure, lose your damned mind over someone using those Flaming Cheetos dust to top off their shitty ramen dinner.

      I want to scream daily.

    18. Squirrel_in_butt on

As long as people have access to stores selling healthy food, I’m fully in support of banning the use of SNAP benefits for junk. The problem is that most SNAP recipients live in areas without healthy options.

    19. Chile, you feeling snacky, buy them hot fries. You robbing Peter to pay Paul and need a little extra to pay your light bill, or that baby need some shoes because the ones the have are talking, sell them fucking stamps. I don’t give a good goddamn. The government fucks us over on the daily, and this much 👌🏾, a fucking pinch of our taxes go to stamps. We are policing the wrong people and the richest of the rich loves that for us. I know this is not a popular opinion and people love to scream about fraud, but it’s a drop in the bucket compared to everything else going on. And like someone else said, the bigger issue is that it’s easier for those on SNAP to get access to junk food than fresh.

    20. Well those who spend on junk will continue to spend on junk even if it was from their own wage packet. I am not even saying there shouldn’t be restrictions tbh, but why are people suddenly caring about healthy food habits when it comes from government taxation.

    21. stuffed-with-cheese on

We all have to pay taxes. I’d rather it goes to feeding people than blowing up middle eastern children.

    22. NotAThrowaway1453 on

The world would be a better place if every tax dollar that goes to a missile went to junk food instead.

    23. bigstankdaddy10 on

America has a horrible health problem, especially with the lower income groups. the idea is to provide a bottom line for people in poverty so they don’t starve to death. mix american capitalist bullshit for the last 60 years and we end up with this. broke people surviving off of bullshit food. there are many things broken in the system, but having one speed bump to shit foods for the impoversihed is not the end of the world to me. being in the struggle is a lot more than money problems, its people problems, mental problems, health problems etc. the chemicals in these junk foods is enough to keep someone spiraling forever. if these people aren’t gonna stop eating the poison, then i dont want to fund it anymore. sugar IS A DRUG

you guys realize these junk food corpos are like cartels right. you all are really out here fighting for poor people to give MORE of their resources to MEGA billionaire corporations like Nestle and Mars, instead of leaning towards the much needed culture shift of junk food is trash, bake your own goods. at the end of the of the day, they can still go buy some candy with whatever money they secured for themselves.

    24. JuicyJoystick22 on

Bruh, some ppl really act like if they don’t guard every lil move, they’ll magically be rich. It’s not about controlling lives, it’s surviving. Miss one paycheck and boom, whole life flipped upside down. Let people live, no cap.

    25. Who cares what it’s spent on? It’s either junk food or selling missiles to other countries. And picking between the two politicians would pick the missile

    26. SecretlyMadeOfStone on

I’d much rather some poor kid be able to have a piece of cake than seeing our tax dollars go to bail out another shitty corporation that fucked itself but still managed to payout multiple millions to their top officers.
