Looks like the Oscars just got a little more exciting for fans of anime! The fact that Academy members will need to watch all nominated films could give Chainsaw Man or Demon Slayer a better shot, though I’m not sure how much of a chance they have. But hey, with the right momentum, who knows?

There aren’t a chance. There is no enforcement of said requirement, so it’s not a de facto obligation. Then there is the fact that the Oscar is always infamously looking down on animation, so the truth is that they “watch” and they vote solely to whatever Pixar, Disney or Dreamworks their children or grandchildren are into that year instead of anything deeper.
