You clearly missed your chance to be an NFL kicker. Bummer.

For added context: my leg had been increasingly sore for a few days, to the point that walking to bathroom in the morning was difficult. The pics are taken at about 9am at home, ~10:15am at urgent care, and ~12:30pm in the emergency room.
I almost tried to go to work, but went to urgent care instead. The nurse didn’t even finish introducing themselves when they walked in, just told me it was a textbook clot and I needed to go to the emergency room. My surgeon told me afterwards that the clot was completely blocking blood flow out of my leg by the time they operated. If I’d waited longer for treatment I could have lost part or all of the limb, IF I survived.

Did they tell you what caused it? That’s gnarly!

Did you notice any swelling along with the pain in the days before you went to the hospital?

What did the doctors say about the clot itself? I bet they thought it was so cool to see one that big-Is that a big one?

Holy shit, how long did it take to swell to that size??
I’ve been super sick, family history of clots. My legs have been SO SORE, out of breathe all the time lately but I keep thinking I’m being paranoid because we were all so sick and I’ve been shoveling my driveway lots from snow.
Any symptoms I should be worried about? I’m booking an appointment with my doctor this week asap. My legs are fairly consistent size between each other so I am unsure if I’m paranoid.
Congratulations on finding out early and saving your life.

Can you describe what it felt like? Like, you said sore, so did it feel like muscle pain? Swelling first or pain first? Just curious

I had one in my small intestine. Lost 1/3 of it in addition to the loss of my entire large intestine due to a nasty case of colitis. I pretty much have no guts.

Good job surviving! I got one in my chest 8 years ago! Ended up being the BEST thing that ever happened to me. I’m grateful for that clot every day.

Omg I hope your ok bro…please take care of your self… start with eating more greens i think.
This is crazy, 2nd post of this kind today. I also had dvt and pe in my late 30s. No genetic issues. Athletic and no reason why. I didn’t however have to get surgery. Mine hurt for about a week, thought it was a pulled muscle then thought tendinitis or inflammation of some sort. Did a virtual video doc call and they told me to go get scanned asap. I did the scan and they told me I was lucky I came in when I did. Gave me eliquis and no other treatment. 3 months in or so no.

Wondering if it’s same as. Varicose or different?

I had a DVT earlier this year, thankfully nothing this serious. I’d casually mentioned some strong calf pain to the doctor who was checking out my unexplained swollen ankle. I’m also in my 30s, so it wasn’t exactly on my radar.
Turns out, you can get gout in your ankle. The DVT ended up being more of a random occurrence. After seeing an oncologist and getting labs done, there were no concerns about the clotting be hereditary

i had multiple pulmonary emboli at 19 a few years ago while at uni in a different state and it was terrifying. they dont know how or where the clots formed (calves or pelvis), and had no indications on where they came from either (meaning i wasnt swollen anywhere of note) but they were glad i got to the er before it got worse. didnt need surgery, but was taken as inpatient and put on blood thinners and took them for 6 months. was a fun time 🙃

I bet your left leg was the one with the clot.
Impressive clot, glad you got it fixed
