“As a German refugee traveling the United States during the 1930s, the photographer John Gutmann described himself as “in paradise” in San Francisco according to the history blog Weimar Art. Shooting mostly the steep streets and plentiful cars of the day, Gutmann also captured the above image from a 1935 Nazi rally at San Francisco City Hall, an event staged by the local German Consulate.”
Now all living together in a shithole country ran by an orange clown.

I’d have to bet it’s something concerning both the American and German states. Which would include hanging both flags as the Nazi flag was the official flag of the German state. I’m sure there are thousands of other images like this. Nice try op but not today.
It’s sad that this is what this site has become because most don’t know or care to realize that history is real. That flag was real and recognized as the official flag and flown for many diplomatic events. It’s reality people. It doesn’t mean the host country condoned it. It meant that it was a legitimate country.

The Nazi flag was the official flag of Germany in 1935.
The United States was not at war with Germany until 6 years later.
Why is this controversial?

Reminder that Hitler enjoyed high popularity abroad, particularly in the United States, before he started invading his neighbors. They thought he was the man who “fixed” Germany, mostly because they didn’t know that his entire economy was a huge Ponzi scheme with some innovative PR.
Good thing Americans aren’t *nearly* that gullible anymore, *RIGHT???*

Yep, no context to this picture is necessary.
