The Menologion of Basil II is an illuminated manuscript containing the lives of Saints, with more than 430 images of important examples of hagiography. It was compiled around 1000 AD for the Emperor himself, and serves as an important example of Roman art in the 11th century. In one of the many images inside the manuscript, the Three Holy Hierarchs are depicted in the artistic style of the Macedonian Renaissance, these being: Basil the Great of Caesarea, Gregory the Theologian of Nazianzus and John Chrysostom. The manuscript currently resides within the Vatican library.

Basil II passed away on the 15th of December 1025 AD. Exactly 1000 years ago.
