After their merger, McDonnell Douglas Phantom Works was merged into Boeing’s defense division and their first project was the X-32 joint strike fighter. During the development of this aircraft, Boeing and MD engineers disagreed multiple times as Boeing was looking to offer a cost competitive and low risk aircraft whilst MD engineers thought they needed cutting edge design and tech to beat Lockheed’s Skunk works. The result was a half baked design which looked derpy as hell.
