This was a photo in the album sleeve of one of his comedy albums. If I recall the record was comedy on one side and banjo music on the other. The banjo side was attributed to a made-up band called “the Steve Martin brothers” and this was the promo photo for them. I’m pretty sure he just dyed his hair and put on “cool guy” clothes for it.
