    1. Old school, check

      Cool, double-check

Rock and roll? Ehhhh, similar ingredients but a different stew. This seems more likely to be listened to by the parents of baby boomers rather than young boomers themselves.

Pretty much swing getting to some bebop. But still seriously badass work by those musicians. They are in lockstep with each other, which is something that the Replacements were known for not being but still made some great music.

    3. Oo wee, oo wee baby, oo wee, oow wee baby. Won’t. You. Let. Me. Take you. On a. SEA CRUiSE

    4. Never heard this version before. I’m familiar with the version by Asleep At The Wheel, which is considered mostly Western swing. But I would agree that rock n roll has evolved from this and other sounds, including country and blues.

    5. This is jazz straight up. What makes this early rock? Early Rock was Elvis Presley taken this type of jazz to a guitar

    6. There is a very good book (very recent too) called Before Elvis. Really walks through the history of US rock and roll. It involves a lot of characters and artists. It also rescues artists and producers from the fog of history. It also shows how important Presley was in all of it. Put another way, rock is a complicated thing with lots of history and nuance.
