Why the total fertility rate doesn’t necessarily tell us the number of births women eventually have

      It is a common mistake to think the total fertility rates is how many children women will have on average over their lifetimes. However that is not correct, the TFR currently likely lower than the number of children a women will eventually have in many countries. TFR is effected by the timing of childbirths and the total number of childbirths. The completed cohort fertility rate ( CCFR” is the average number of children born to women for a specific year, has been over 1.98 for women born before 1985.
