SD – ‘Super Deformed’ – is a fairly popular thing in Japanese mecha media where it’s stumpy little chibi versions of the regular robots. Look up SD Gundam if you want a good example, I’m not sure if that’s what started it but it’s been around forever.
Based on the fact that the ‘SHIDE ROBOT’ in the top left is also in a font that’s almost a dead ringer for Robot Damashii’s logo (a big Bandai action figure line) I’m gonna guess that’s where they got it from.
