This statue was once one of those which line the south side of Prague’s famous Charles Bridge. Sculpted by Matthias Braun (1684-1738), it depicts St. Ludmila of Bohemia, a 10th c. martyr, and her son, Wenceslaus I (Good King Wenceslaus), likewise a saint. On the base is a depiction of the murder of Wenceslaus.
This statue is one of several which have been removed from the bridge and replaced by copies to protect the original pieces of art. Today, it is stored in an underground chamber of the Vyšehrad fortress, where it may be visited during tours of the casemates.
