Athena Parthenos Chiaramonti, colossal head of Athena, Rome, late 1st century CE. Found together with an arm and a foot, it was part of an acrolith statue (a composite statue in which only the naked parts were of marble) believed to be a copy of an original from the circle of Phidias [1280×853] [OC]

I normally add info here but I found little about this bust. However, I have a question. Does anybody know why they call this bust *colossal* everywhere? Don’t remember it being that big… The definition of *acrolith* seems also a bit off. In this case, only the face and neck would be marble…
