    1. Context: In his memoir Ambassador Morgenthau’s Story, US Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, Henry Morgenthau Sr had a meeting with Talaat Pasha, where Talaat asked Henry for a list of American Life insurance policies. This because of at the time, ongoing Armenian Genocide, the Ottoman government wanted to collect Armenian policy holders, since they had no heirs *Cough*>! The Ottomans killed them and stole their property and wealth !<*Cough* and the Ottoman government was the benefactor now.

Appalled, Morgenthau Sr refused to give such a list, and continued to speak out against the actions of the Ottoman government, eventually resigning from the ambassadorship in 1916.
