Alcohol-induced deaths in the US have hit a record high, with 33,000 people dying from alcohol in the most recent year with available data. Counting car accidents and broader injuries, alcohol-attributed deaths reach a record 88,000. The sharpest spike in deaths has been among women and young adults

"Alcohol-Induced Deaths: 33,200 people in the United States died from alcohol in 2015 and 267,000 died over the last decade (2006-2015, based on those recorded directly as 'alcohol-induced deaths.'). This equated to 10.3 deaths per 100,000 Americans in 2015, 91 per day, 3.8 per hour, and one death every 16 minutes. One study found that when factoring in alcohol-related injuries and motor vehicle crashes, alcohol can be attributed to roughly 88,000 deaths annually"
