My mother was actually somehow always aware of things. She was like a freaking pre-cog. She really did have lighter punishments and much more empathetic responses for honesty.
Her and the “Scout’s Honour” mentality of Boy Scouts conditioned an obsession with truth for me only rivaled by some people I know with their obsessions with looking perfect… and absolutely destroying me when I open up about things that implicate them.
