The photo is believed to have been taken on April 24, 1865, when the procession moved north through the city. At that time, the family home at 849 Broadway belonged to Roosevelt’s father, Cornelius. An eyewitness later stated that the children seen looking out the window were indeed Theodore Roosevelt and his younger brother, Elliott.

Man, this pic hits different. Teddy R in the making, witnessing a piece of history.
The photo was probably taken on a 4 X 5 glass plate negative. My late father was a photographer. He had a collection of these from the 1870s and on. When you blow up(enlarge) these old glass negs, the detail is amazing.
