Me too, and my favorite thing is to ask them how they celebrate Thanksgiving; all of the immigrants I’ve spoken to celebrate Thanksgiving. Half the time their faces light up and every time they enthusiastically tell me how they blend their cultural food with traditional American Thanksgiving food and it’s lovely to hear. Some have even said they don’t like turkey but have it for Thanksgiving because their children insist upon it. If that isn’t proof that they’re happy and thankful to be part of this country, I don’t know what is.

When I was a kid, my local newspaper had a “word on the street segment” where they would find people outside on main street or the mall, take their picture and ask them a question. Then four of the were published in the paper daily.
So my late stepdad was asked one time, waiting outside in the cold, what the benefits of immigrants were. He was super racist so I thought it was wild they asked him. But he was also super big into eating. So his answer was “they make good food”. They make food food with a picture of his chunky face is burned into memory as the funniest thing ever.
