The speaker produces spooky and eerie sounds that scare the hiding Viet Cong. The sound was produced by the South Vietnamese. Some sounds produce sobbing, shrieking, and mournful wails. The Americans exploited the vulnerability of the Vietnamese through cultural beliefs. Vietnamese believed that if their loved ones are not properly buried, they will roam around the earth and their soul will forever disturb the living.
