Pushpins are just nails dressed up in plastic for functionality.

    1. Actually not all are. I used to have ones that I’d pull out the pin out and it was smooth on the back end – so it slid out without a head on it.

    2. Oh I *wish* they were all like that. The worst, scariest, and most painful injury, despite having broken bones before, was when I pushed a thumb tack into a wall with *all* my strength (not realizing I was hitting a beam)… and the plastic gave way, allowing as equally a fine point of metal as on the other end to pierce straight through. Absolutely traumatic experience; haven’t messed with thumb tacks since.

    3. More or less.

It’s injection modeled plastic shot into a mold with pressure and heat around a nail.

If you notice/feel the seam line that’s from the 2 halfs of the mold where it seerates to shoot these out. It’s such a small amount of plastic you can do a cycle with like 20 of these on a tooling die at a time in just a few seconds

A lot of things are just nails..
Thumb tacks are just nails with plastic.
Toothpicks are just wooden nails for your teeth.
Birthday candles are just cake nails you light on fire.

    5. Interestingly, my husband always calls these ‘nails.’ I always thought it was a bit weird, but thought maybe it was a regional thing. 🤷‍♀️

    6. That’s why I drive them with a hammer for the rest of my life, watched my cousin lose her fingernail giving too much push 😱

Nails are really just naked push pins.

You’re going to feel a bit odd holding a nail next time, aren’t you.
