In Brazil it is common to grocery stores to sell vegetables bundles, with tomatoes, onions and many others for $0.4~$0.6 each

    1. They do similar in the UK, though frequently far less exotic.
      Sometimes whole ingredients, sometimes ready-prepared.

    2. Soup! Chop it up, chuck in a fistful of chopped chicken and a smattering of assorted spices and simmer.

    3. Some US grocery stores will have similar things. Like packaged veggies/herbs meant for grilling, or for making a stew, etc.

In an American supermarket, this would cost at least 3x the price per pound of buying them individually.

In Hong Kong, you usually get green onions or onions or cheap veggies for free when you buy something, in wet market. You need to negotiate though. A lot of people never bought green onions in their life until they emigrated because it was free.

    6. We’ve got this in Oz too. Soup Mix Veggies (root vegetables, onion and a couple sticks of celery), stuff for stir frys, I’ve even seen some veggie starter kits for things like Zucchini Slice and Apple Crumble.

That’s actually a smart system – you get exactly what you need for a meal without having to buy bulk. In the US you’re stuck buying a whole bag of onions even if you only need one or two. This seems way more practical for people who shop daily instead of weekly.
