First EVER recorded instance of something in the British museum belonging there
During the fourth Anglo-Ashanti war in 1895, British forces took this strange looking jug from the Ashanti king. It contained strange heraldry very similar to other contemporary bronze jugs and is the one in the best condition in comparison to the other 3 jugs
It’s astonishing how antique vessels can be widespread and last so long. I’ve read it somewhere that Bartmannskrug pottery (produced in Cologne mostly) was used as a burial accessory by Native Americans.
