Call me crazy but if someone says a product or service is cheaper if I pay cash than with a digital payment you bet your sweet ass I’m headed to the atm. If they want to piss off the irs that’s their own issue.

Cash-only spots always make me suspicious. Nothing good ever follows the phrase “don’t worry about the receipt.”

They could do what Taiwan did, make all receipts lottery tickets. That way customers demand receipts for all purchases even if they’re cash.

I’ve worked for a few older people as my employer. In most cases it’s just emotional/principle that they don’t want to pay credit card transaction fees. Doesn’t matter if you tell them how much more revenue you’ll generate these days because everyone uses cards and not many people carry cash, they will insist they are getting ripped off and demand cash.

Help local small businesses with tax evasion?

Just so you are aware, it is illegal to require rent in only cash in most states. Tenants can pay in cash, but are not required. If you lease says this, it is illegal. Always pay landlords in checks so you have a paper trail.

It isn’t just to do with taxes though I do suspect that plays a role. Some businesses don’t like to use cards because they have to pay a percentage each transaction to the payment processor
Honestly the way the financial system is setup in our society is mindbogglingly horrific
Many of our economic issues can be traced to our horrible financial system as the root cause. There shouldn’t need to be a payment processor. Like the banks should be the freaking payment processor. They earn all the profit from our money yet the service the provide is the bare minimum

Or, they want to avoid credit card fees. Every time I pay in cash I consider that an automatic tip to the business to avoid credit card fees

Using debit or credit cards also incurs transaction fees to the merchant. So it is cheaper with cash. That’s why some places will offer a discount if paying in cash
greatteachermichael on
Some vendors have really thin profit margins. if you make a 2-3% profit margin and every credit card transaction has a 1.5-4% fee you’re probably losing money. If someone pays with a check and they don’t have money in their account you just lost money. Why would you do even make a transaction if you’re going to lose money on it?

I ask coyly all the time if cash will get me a discount. In the last year I saved $500 on a concrete project and $250 on some new gutters. I always pay my auto mechanic in cash and as a result never wait for work to get done. Cash is still king with small businesses in face to face transactions.

More like “if you want to pay the 3.5% vendor fee for using card we will let you, but we aren’t paying your business transportation fee for you like we have for over 50 years”.
This was for sure made by someone who is mad that they can’t rack up a $1200 bill on a business card they have no intention of ever paying on.

With what payment processors charge it doesn’t have to be a tax evasion thing. Stupid meme
