This is a nice dream but I don’t think it will happen. America became deeply broken over a decade ago and the MAGA-movement have only further exacerbated this brokenness. I have huge doubts whether the country will ever manage to heal.

I understand the point, but we had two generations of children raised on warnings about exactly how Germany happened, then two more generations after that we’re back here again.
The problem is that we forgot, we “won” and took enlightenment liberalism and western democracy for granted as an inevitable outcome of progress, and stopped teaching our full history. We left out the terrible warts and along with them went not only shared story of our dream of liberty (negative and positive), individual rights and government by the people, but how this model has made history allowing the people to confront and improve our system, and how not only can we do it again but it is imperative and maybe the most important part of our purpose.
Our current direction is in large part born of decades of apathy and disillusionment. We let our systems become coopted and privatized and corrupted and illiberal, but if nothing else the terrible things being done right now are glaring proof that voting can matter and things in our system can change, quickly, if there is the will to participate and change.

I disagree. I think Trump deserves a grave–at the bottom of an effluent tank where all the fecal material and piss is dumped at a factory pig farm. That would suit him. Plus the pigs would be paying respects to him 24/7. Win/win.
