My new roommate owns one of those recalled Garfield mugs that have lead and cadmium in them, and she’s been using it since the 80’s. The way my jaw dropped when I found it in the sink lol.

    1. Used to have a few of them. Glad they broke years before I found out about the danger. Wasn’t glad when they were first broken.

    2. I had one of those as a kid, we never stopped using it, never sent it anywhere, but I couldn’t tell you where in the world it went aside from it breaking at some point.

    3. I have this exact cup, still at my mom’s house. I drank so much hot chocolate out of it as a kid.

    4. I had a bunch of jelly jars that were meant to be reused as glasses after you finished off the jelly that looked an awful lot like these. Are these different glasses or was I using tainted glasses for a good 20 or so years?

    5. They were never recalled, and apparently the idea that these contain unsafe lead and cadmium levels was started by an online blogger and has never been independently verified.

The video I saw on these McDonald’s lead/cadmium glasses said that they were really only harmful to children. Idk how true that actually is. I grew up drinking out of those Garfield mugs lmao

    7. I’m pretty sure the only glasses like these that were ever officially recalled for lead where the McDonald’s Shrek Forever After glasses that were recalled in 2010.

    8. I still have mine! I don’t use it, but only because it went through a hurricane and I’m never putting it near my mouth again after that, lol.

    9. Shit. I never knew that was recalled. I may even still have that somewhere in the house or in storage.
