    [OC] The Savannah Bananas are on their way to being worth as much as some MLB teams


    The banana bread is getting nuts.⁣
    ⁣
    According to Forbes, the Savannah Bananas organization is worth around $500 million, which puts it about halfway to some MLB teams’ net worths.⁣
    ⁣
    The Bananas—and other teams within the same organization—will bring in more than $100 million in revenue this year, thanks mostly to merchandising and ticket sales. The organization will also turn a profit, whereas 11 MLB clubs operated at a loss last season, Forbes reported.⁣
    ⁣
    It’s possible the Bananas’ business could ripen even more. The organization is adding two new expansion teams that will allow for a longer league-type season.⁣

    Owner Jesse Cole said he’s been approached by interested parties valuing the organization at $1 billion. But he has no plans to part with the fruits of his labor anytime soon, saying he’s currently focused on fostering a good experience for the fans.⁣

      It’s a fun show, but it’s tough to believe it’ll have much staying power. A decade of fun maybe, then you gotta make banana bread.

      I get it, but not sure they can be compared to MLB teams. It’s not really a sports league, more like an experience tour, akin to music or other non competitive experiences.

      I suppose that’s one way to interpret the data. I look at that and see that they’re not worth anywhere near as much as the least valuable MLB franchise.

      National TV deals are a huge thing, and the Bananas don’t have one. (EDIT: apparently they do, but nothing comparing to the revenue numbers of MLB)

      Stanley Cup of sports entertainment. apparent fear of missing out + scarcity tell me not to participate.

      The Marlins being worth $1.05B, while being purchased just 8 years ago for $1.2B is amusing to me… it means they drastically overpaid, or lost significant value in the decisions they made.

      Franchises that do nothing right still make money and go up in value over time lol
