The only thing the Democrats got out of this was a pinky-promise to vote again on Healthcare in a month, by the way.

    2. Schumer wasn’t in on the deal. They are going to pay federal workers back pay, fund SNAP through 2026, and CR through 1/30. The ACA subsidies need a vote, we’ll see how that works out.

So of the house meets to vote that means a certain rep finally gets sworn in, right?

      Right?

    4. I knew the shutdown was going to end after the election. If you didn’t see this coming you were blind

    5. It’s blame Democrats time on WPT. Trump is actively trying to starve people, but god forbid Dems try to find small wins while not starving people in a congress and senate where they don’t control.

And their hours the ACA and Medicare and Medicaid and social e because the Republicans know that all they have to do is threaten and the Democrats will cave.

NYT had an op-ed piece this morning about how Mamdani isn’t the future of the Democratic Party and that Josh Shapiro was.

I suppose if they want to lose more elections they can keep doing status quo. Up to them.

If we just let Germany have the Sudetenland, they promise that’s as far as they’ll go! /s

For everyone deriding the democrats for folding – 1 in 8 Americans rely on SNAP. Yes, the idea of starving families should be enough to fold on.

It’s easy to armchair quarterback a situation where it’s not your family having to choose between food and bills and go ‘they shouldn’t have folded and just let the situation keep going on’.

Geez guys, have some humanity. People are going to get their SNAP benefits and other workers are going to get their pays.

    10. Fuck that strongly worded letter Writer. This piece of shit is the best we have to fight for democracy? We are fucked!

At the end of the day I think they calculate that all incumbents take a hit and you are much more unpopular for keeping government closed and hurting everyday people…I don’t think anyone gets more popular the longer it goes except the guy/gal who runs against you in next election. The dems have already kinda done some unprecedented stuff with holding out this long.

I’m just glad the filibuster is not being lost

    12. On the one hand, Schumer is against this, he didn’t cave. On the other hand, independently of this specific circumstance, yeah, get Schumer out.

    13. I mean…as much as I hate it, I can’t really blame Democrats for this. People need their benefits, and that can’t happen if the government is shut down. republicans control the majority of Congress, so unfortunately, the Democrats have to bend the knee here until they can find a better footing. Hopefull,y with the recent success of Mamdani’s win as mayor of New york and Gavon Newsom’s recent victories, it will spell out a clear sign of hope soon, but I am pretty douptful.

Democrats. Shit like this is what makes people apathetic and fractures the base by convincing progressives that establishment Dems are either unwilling or unable to mount any sort of functional resistance against the enormous wave of shit we are expected to swallow, day in, day out.

    15. I mean, I guess if the option was not letting people starve or having them not pay high premiums for healthcare, I would choose the thing that’s going to immediately keep people alive

Shame, though, really could’ve been a game changer if they held out

    16. The powers that be (not the people) told those dems to make a deal. Can’t have a shutdown during the largest retail season of the year. Primary and vote those losers out!

    17. Probably doesn’t matter. Trump would veto it if they passed it anyway.

All I can say is that at least Trump and the GOP will get tagged with full blame for the massive health insurance costs families will bear.

    18. What were they supposed to do? Just wait?

Sincere question… Because I see a lose lose situation for them if they do or they don’t.
