The Black Panther’s free breakfast program was so successful it scared the shit out of the FBI who worked to destroy giving kids free breakfast (search COINTELPRO).
The program was so popular the only way to stamp it out was for the government to offer its own free breakfast, and eventual lunch, programs to choke out the Black Panthers.
