First off: there is no “national language” as much as these chucklefucks want to make English the national language, we do not have an official one.
Second: the moment you step foot on US soil, you are protected by the Constitution and all our laws.
I just can’t with these conservative idiots anymore. How can you live in this country and not have a clue how it works?
These people forgot where we came from, both literally and figuratively.
I do believe you should know a tiny bit of the predominant language of a country you are visiting or residing in. The simple reason is so you can communicate on some level in the event of a crisis or emergency. That’s the beginning middle and end of it for me though.
All I got to say is, if a person is doing a job requiring communication such as food or other delivery services, counter work at a restaurant, or even being a server, there needs to be a minimum ability to communicate. Considering that more than 75% of people speak English as their first language that means they need to speak and communicate in English without needing a translator. That being said I am more comfortable eating at a restaurant when I hear Spanish spoken in the kitchen. Because by the gods they know how to cook.
They can barely speak their own language and they’re worried about other people. 🙄
obviously you should learn the language of the country you’re living in. if i moved to mexico and didnt speak spanish that’d make for a very difficult life and a hard time making friends or communicating or learning the culture. but like that doesnt mean you get to disappear people and violate their rights because they don’t know a language
This is, of course, incorrect in multiple ways. Funny how the dipshits who claim to love America and the Constitution don’t know Jack shit about either.
Americans are the only people I know who are so proud of their ignorance. Everywhere you go outside of the US most people speak more than one language.
In the age of instant translation there is no reason to care. This is just more culture War bullshit it is all they have because on every other front they are provably and demonstrably out of touch and wrong
Well, in case facts matter:
1. We don’t *have* a “national language”
2. The 14th Amendment grants equal protection to all persons anywhere within US jurisdiction
Their argument basically boils down to “these ‘people’ don’t have rights because they aren’t people”
ICE, please deport this man. He does not know how to use “were” properly.
I keep seeing things like this, just blatant lies presented and facts and people on the right just eat it up!
My Grandfather was born in Minnesota, as was his mother. He could only speak German until he started school when he was five or six. These folks need to realize the world of the past that they imagine, never existed.
Since conservatives think undocumented people have no constitutional rights…no right to due process enumerated in the constitution, I think we should round up conservatives and send them to Gitmo. When they complain “I’m a US citizen. I have the right to a day in court”. We just say “Yeah right. You’re an illegal and you have no rights, so no day in court to prove who you are”. And of course, they’ll have to agree, because you know…illegals have no rights.
Hey pal, you just blow in from Stupid Town?
He seems to think that keeping the language of your “home” country is a new thing. LOL
My Swedish ancestors came to the USA in the 1850’s and settled in Swedish communities in the Midwest. These communities continued to speak Swedish and taught their children Swedish as their first language. In the late 1940’s my great grandmother, who was born in America, still only spoke broken English. My Grandfather was fluent in both languages but grew up speaking Swedish at home.
This isn’t anything new. There isn’t an “official” language in this country. My Great Grandmother’s struggle with English didn’t make her any less American.
I think that the only reason it is perceived as a problem NOW is that the immigrants who still speak their original language have darker skin than my Great Grandmother.
Allow me to explain how 99% of the conservatives “this is what the left actually believes” statements come about:
– Loser says something incredibly stupid or racist online. Gets called on it. Does Eric Cartman level of mental gymnastics to rewrite their memory of that interaction so in their version, they said something mild and the “leftist” berated them for hours.
or
– Friend of terminally online loser attempted a tired joke about “lol I bet the left thinks (insert incredibly unreal thing)”. Mental gymnastics occur so online loser now “remembers” crowds of leftists screaming this thing at them for weeks upon end.
Everyone in the U.S. knowing English *would* make many things a lot smoother for everyone.
There are more countries in the world than just Latin America.
The United States has no “national language.”
“National language”’is such a fucking joke, especially considering the levels of literacy among the right.
Do these guys know there is no official ‘national language’?
Am I right that America doesn’t have a national language? I’m European so that could just be something I heard somewhere and I’m wrong.
Our national language? I mean, I’m not shocked when he has a grifting white supremacist as his pfp. These people really need to develop personalities of their own.
The loudest in the room is always the dumbest.
Oh yeah, r/Conservative is pretty much the bottom of the barrel of subs on Reddit, and that’s really saying something. It’s an echo chamber of cowards who know full well they could never defend their beliefs and remarks, so they hide behind “flaired user” requirements and banning all those that do so much as disagree with the group think. It’s always funny when a group so obsessed with “alpha males” are so scared of even the most mild criticism or debate.
> Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
This is the text btw, cause I doubt they read it, now can someone kindly point out to me the part where it talks about this only counting for citizens?
That sub exists solely to spread propaganda and to keep people misinformed and angry.
ALL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS MUST NOW LEARN ENGLISH. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. Donny dumbshit
The foreign language I run into most is Spanish. So I learned Spanish. It”s like the easiest language in the world to learn
Basically these snowflakes get themselves upset about every possible thing, real or made up, so they can cry and whine to each other and pretend like they’re holding the high ground, riding the high horse, while being low down scumbag dumbass motherfuckers. Fuck conservatives, fuck their platform, fuck everyone supporting them and fuck everything they stand for.
I’m 90% sure that sub is all bots.
r/Conservative outjerked actual jerkoff subs a long time ago with the amount of circlejerking they do.
It is weird how **we force people from other nations to learn our language, but we *offer theirs as electives.*** In _the ball sac_ of America, “Louisiana French” was mixture of multiple languages. Among them were African Creole languages.
It was eventually banned.
My favorite logic breaker is asking these idiots how they know someone is illegal without the due process that determines that. This is *especially* important in the (stupid) hypothetical fantasy that the constitution somehow doesn’t apply to undocumented individuals but does for citizens; it’s a *serious* crime even in that fantasy world if they trample the rights of a citizen.
Of course, the extra bit is watching them stew when they can’t argue that reasonably, because they know *exactly* their preferred and head canon reasonable methodology for determining legality. We all know what that is, pure racism and religious fundamentalism. They’re thankfully still (mostly) uncomfortable owning up to it outside of their mono color safe spaces and private messaging groups, but it’s right there under the surface and they’re not that far from saying it out loud. They struggle not to blurt it out already.
