I genuinely think learning history from books is much better than trusting anyone on internet … specially Twitter and reddit.

Do you mean to tell me that Spartans did not in fact fight in nothing but loincloths, red cloaks and helmets, with their rippling abs serving as their sole form of armour? Did 300 lie to me? Surely not.

    3. Historical armour is so much cooler. On the left generic rags, on the right ancient Robocop

    4. Why do people keep acting like the Dendra Panoply was standard armor for the period? It’s a unique piece from a very specific point in time.

We have depictions, descriptions, and surviving elements of armor from the period that tell us exactly how hoplites were armed, armored, and acted. This kind of masturbatory pseudo-history is just stupid.

These damn ancient greek and romans started this trend of using non historical armor for roman and greek plays!

Honestly, I like it when period piece, no matter how fictional story it has, attempts to portray the historical setting it’s placed in, with nuance, authenticity and some research.

It’s like an extra layer that the entertainment piece can provide to the audience, and it shows the filmmakers really did make their research.

    7. “This is why they hired Chris Nolan and not a nerd on twitter” is one hell of a “This fucking sucks, actually *points at coolest thing ever*” take when you have the two images above. Even if it ISN’T period-accurate the Dendra panoply is way cooler than some rags with a fucking… random ass Centurion helmet.
