    1. I wonder if this is some legal loophole. They were asked to lower the speed limit under 20 or something.

    2. Private property speed limits have weird numbers because the weirdness makes people pay more attention to them.

    3. I often wonder if we should do speed limits this way, because of same psychology that leads all prices to end in 9.99. People think 32 is reasonable in a 30 when they would think 27 is reasonable in a 29.

I imagine it used to say 20 but then people drove up to 29 since it’s “still in that range”. The big digit is the one that matters, you see.

    5. This is private property. As in not a public street where the government put a sign and police officer could enforce the speed limit. The idea behind these signs is that they’re supposed to be interesting attention getters.

    6. A local town has a speed limit of 31, where most areas here in town is 30. Tons of theories on why ranging from mayors daughter is involved, mayor himself is involved, used as a speed trap tactic, etc but I think the real reason is someone a few decades ago wanted to be petty and do something to draw attention to the town, and nobody has wanted to deal with the red tape to change it.

We have almost exclusively have odd speed signs. I work in a super rich area with tiny streets, and I guess it’s so they’re “unique.” But we have a lot of 17mph, 12mph, and 22mph

    8. people thinking these signs are interesting is actually more interesting than the signs themselves.
