To be fair, the monarchy just got tired of Mussolini’s crap and joined the allies. With the bald man’s genius strategy in Greece no wonder the country just joined the other side without his control.

Well they were better off than Germany, sure. But not the entire axis bloc. Bulgaria is actually #1 on that list because they gained territory after WW2 even though they sided with the Axis powers.

    3. The Italian Social Republic stayed loyal to Germany till the end but I doubt the people [who joked about The Kingdom of Italy switching sides] will praise them for their loyalty…

Never letting Italy off for their performance in Ww2, no matter how much copium they inhale

As their latin cousins, we did the same in Romania.

We “merely” got Moldova taken from us, and got communism shoved down our throat.

Sorta makes sense when you figure that, net net, Italy probably helps the ally’s more than the Axis. Mussolini is a real “with ally’s like these, who needs enemies”.

They didn’t switch sides. The Fascist council did a vote of no confidence against Mussolini with the support of the King. Mussolini was then arrested.

German special forces invaded Northern Italy, rescued Mussolini and put him in charge of a puppet state.
