The paper, the envelope and the stamp all cost more that that

Still no reason to flex on us poors like that 🤬

    2. The US treasury department will occasionally send checks with a value of 10 to 30 USD to people who owe back taxes.

Once you deposit them, they recieve a notification, and can identify your active bank account easily for garnishment.

    3. Can I have it? I recently received a bill from an urgent care for the balance my insurance didn’t cover. Literally one cent.

    4. “Oh…wow. with this amazing amount of money going into my account, I can finally retire.”

    5. Don’t spend all the money for things you don’t really need. Just safe a part for your retirement /s

    6. Try not to spend it all in one place…but that will be awfully difficult since its only a penny.

I’ve gotten tons of weird class action settlement checks over the last couple years. I had a tendancy to like to get drunk and sign myself up to join on class action suits whether I bought the product or not. Turns out when they say they need receipts they don’t really care, for some the payout is the same so the company doesn’t care if 100 people get a dollar or if 1000 people get ten cents, at least that has been my experience over the years. I had a few under $0.15 and I think the largest was one for $22.71 that I think was for some canned tuna or something. All I’m saying is if you’re bored and have the free time fill out those class action forms, the worst that happens is they don’t give you anything.

    8. Tell them the check got lost in the mail after 30 days and ask for a new one to be issued. Wonder how much we can make this cent cost!?

    9. Cash it, you will make the person who was required so happy if you do. Otherwise … They’ll have to do it again.

    10. I remember I deposited a check like this after I forgot about it for a while and because it was too long it bounced and I got charged 25 bucks 🙁

    11. My landlord once sent me a check for 1 cent and told me to please please please make sure I deposited it…. because he’d face severe penalties for withholding the interest on my security deposit. Which was practically but not actually 0%.

This is a tactic I frequently employ. When submitting payments for parking or speeding tickets I will purposefully send them a check and overpay by $.02-$.03. They will then have to pay more in postage alone to return my two or three cents.

    13. But… we’re not making pennies anymore. Does that mean if you cash it, they give you a nickel? Then do you owe the check writer 4 cents back? So many questions.
