This is reality for a lot of Americans. People who have never struggled will never really understand.

The only one on that list that didn’t apply to me is Hand Me Downs cuz I didn’t have a older sibling. But thrift store is the same difference. Fuck I really was all the way poor😭

In North Carolina, SNAP pays out about 6 bucks a day. That’s barely anything. But these bitches got a ballroom and a budget for DHS larger than almost all nation’s military budget. This is what the GOP values. I don’t use SNAP, but I would gladly have my taxes go to that program completely. Its for people who are getting underpaid by their employers; why the hell would we keep that out their mouths? Over 600,000 kids in NC rely on this program.

Evil people doing evil things under the guise of Jesus and religion. The more things change, the more they stay the same. I hope everyone who needs help can get it somewhere.

There are some people who would be crushed under the weight of poverty if they had to experience it for a month. Just paying for food with snap or EBT cards, or the funny money from years ago… It had a stigma. You had to swallow your pride or starve. Being poor keeps you humble and teaches you to hustle and not everybody is built for that.

I’ve lived all of this and worse. Some don’t know about having to choose between your own hunger and your younger siblings. We did it without SNAP so, while I’ll say it’s atrocious that we live in a supposed “first world” or “developed” nation, it’s doable.

The result will be…. Welp, it won’t be fun once the rabbit has the gun.

    6. Bruh I see some of these folks in some of these subs suggesting that having to share a room with a sibling is child abuse. They don’t know nothing about no struggle.

    7. It’s crazy……. Some people have no compassion. I gladly would pay a ton of taxes to keep programs that feed, house, & overall care for people who need it. I’ve been there as a child & young adult……….

    8. This is not living I expect everyone to understand bc it’s a tough, tough life. But I do expect empathy bc this is not the kind of life people choose, but the kind they endure

Almost everyone here is one illness away from this kind of poverty. It is so shockingly easy to lose everything. Fucking people with medical debt is morally reprehensible. Using snap as a bargaining chip is worse

    9. 70% of SNAP benefits go to children, the elderly, and the disabled. Even though all of this post is valid, it’s still a minority of the people SNAP actually helps.

Anyone who has experienced even one of those things listed knows that poverty is worst form of violence – to quote Gandhi.

weird thing have yall noticed a lot of “smart” ovens don’t allow the door to be open, and in turn heating the house??? isn’t that kind of odd

I was born with a considerable amount of “class privilege” and would never wish for people who look and love differently than me to go without basic necessities. This might as well be a spiritual war. Dump, those in his cabinet and the supporters are pure, unadulturated evil.

    14. This is my childhood. Crazy how when you’re a kid, at first you don’t realize how poor you really are. My dad got a decent job by the time I started growing up, but that didn’t mean my parents weren’t terrible with money and raising 4 kids. Living my own life, I’ve struggled as well. Things are ok right now, but I have ptsd about it all falling apart. 😂

And there’s a reason as an adult I won’t eat grape jelly and only entertain the blue ramens.

    16. The people who don’t know about boiling water on the stove for baths are not the same people who don’t know about handy downs

    17. I don’t want another soul to go through any of the things listed there. This isn’t the poverty Olympics and we can be empathetic without suffering the same exact hardships. That all being said, some of y’all don’t know what government cheese is or tastes like and it shows.
