I’d imagine there’s no drainage in the basement so they had to raise it where the upstairs goes out was probably cheaper than a grinder toilet or a pump system

A few years ago I was looking for houses and one of them had an underground “living cellar”. The bed/office/mini kitchen was actually nice, but the toilet had a similar problem, with the extra that it was in the dead center of a square room and there where a couple stairs on every direction. The shit throne is the sentence that flashed in my brain.
