I found this photo tucked inside an old book: no idea who took it but I believe its about 1982 in Canvey Island, UK. The lady on the left is my great-grandmother; I’m not sure who the other woman is.
I just felt I had to share it: there's something nostalgic I really love about it, though I can't quite explain why.

The popping out for a chat thing was a staple of my childhood. Everyone used to natter over the garden fences. If you drive through my old area now you don’t see a soul. Very bizarre that society should change so drastically but we’re all the worse for it. I wonder if people will ever get community back or the weird self-isolation period will last forever now. Great pic!
Popping round for a cuppa was a normal thing to do as well.
