    1. Lynx= leukos “bright” from Greek referring to the eyes

pardinus = “leopard like” from Latin

Lynx pardinus = “Bright eyed leopard”

      Leucistic “albino”

    2. Is this something that just happens, and wasn’t caught on camera before Because it’s a rare mutation in a rare and elusive species? Or is this a worrying sign of low genetic diversity in an endangered species?

It’s unnerving because the cat is looking right at the camera, probably heard the shutter snap. Beautiful animal though.
