We lost our mom to an ugly battle with cancer. 12:20 am, dad woke me up that he needed help with mom. She passed away 2 hours later. It was an awful way to go and I don't think I'll ever forget those two hours.
She was born in very rural country farm in northern Alabama.
She had a pretty rough upbringing. Her first two husbands were very abusive.
In the 80's, we were homeless. Living in a car. We came up with the "family business" that saved our life, allowed us to eat and occasionally stay at a motel.
Mom made crocheted these bookworms, I sold them door-to-door for .50 cents each. My sister would go with me but i looked like Opie / Dennis the Menace / Howdy Doody and/or Alfalfa. I also had the mouth for sales, so at 8 years old I became the salesman and went to work.
Mom crocheted these little bookworms and made afghans. Dad helped. There was a lot more to the dynamic. But mom crocheted til her fingers bled. Then she put band-aids on and kept going.
It's what we had to do to survive.
I often think about how hard her life was and then she had to die of cancer and it hurts like hell.
But I just wanted to share some pictures of my mom.
She was really a great person.
I added a picture of her Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. She was really proud of them. She made them then she would give them to kids.

Thank you for sharing about your mom. She sounds like a hell of a mom. Despite the hard times, (and those seem like very tough times) I’m sure her greatest, most rewarding job was being your mom. Just speaking as a fellow mom, having great kids makes life 1000x better and you guys seem like you were great kids to her.
