    1. In this picture, they could almost pass for the plastic army men many of us played with as children.

Any public events, excluding the majority of concerts, has snipers. This has been the norm since 2020….

I realize the Panther’s D isn’t very good, but this is kind of excessive if you ask me.

Okay so I know nothing about shooting but what’s with the really high stand? I get it’s for stability but I’d ignorantly guess that you’d have even more stability if the operator was prone as well? (Like you see in movies). I know it sounds dumb but can someone tell me why it’s so high?

(* only thing I remember from Boy Scouts was to keep my finger off the trigger, always check down range, and not point it at anything I didn’t want to destroy… firearm instructor was in the military and was a man of little words).

Edit: Thanks team! Reddit coming to aid me in learning random things that I would have never thought of before.

    5. There is no fed-osha approved safety rails installed!! Someone could fall off!!

Same with all the ice buildings I’ve been noticing

    6. There seems to be a lot of confusion why these guys are there and a lot of assumptions it’s fairly new or uniquely American.

It’s not lol. This happens at almost every major outdoors event (sporting, concerts, rallies, etc) in almost every country on earth. Normally they aren’t so visible but you can make a game out of spotting them once you know where to look.

    7. These are overt snipers, you don’t see the covert ones. Like having a cop car parked in an obvious spot. Its a deterrent.

    8. I was a specialized photographer for many dozens of college football and NFL games from 2008 to 2019. I did primarily panoramic and gigapixel photography and oftentimes found myself taking my photos from similar vantage points as these snipers. This was an extremely normal and common occurrence at most of the big time college games and nearly every NFL game I attended. And it certainly happens at plenty of other large events pushing many tens to hundreds of thousands of people.

Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary here.

I forgot there were NFL Panthers and wondered how and why there were snipers inside of an NHL arena in south Florida. What could they even aim at from the top of a jumbotron.
