The end of tsarist reign in Russia was partly their own fault, IMHO.
Yes, Nicky and his family were needlessly vilified by the Soviet Union, but he considered himself a divinely appointed autocratic ruler and the russian entry into the great war (aka WW1) was disastrous for the country.
Widespread poverty, shortages of everything and meanwhile Nicholas insisted the war go on. Had he pulled out of the war effort sooner and not run the country into the ground, maybe the russian empire might have survived even though it’s doubtful.

Is this something to do with the robbery at the Louvre?

Well at least they didn’t have tacky Amazon plastic “gold” stick ons.

Nicolae Ceaușescu did a similar thing in Romania, building opulent palaces for himself and his wife while their people starved. They were eventually executed on live television.
One day there will be a Gold House and the people will not want to eat cake.

I would not bet against Donald saying “let them eat bread” sometime before Thanksgiving.

Not so fun fact: SNAP is running out of funds November 1st 2025 due to the government shutdown, which would result in 42 million US citizens losing their food stamps.
Meanwhile, Trump’s priority is his new palace on the white house grounds

You just know that the “ballroom” is going to include new gaudy living quarters for Trump. The whitehouse can only be made so tacky without tearing down the walls and starting fresh.

I saw an exhibit of Faberge eggs a month ago, nearly all of them with portraits of Czar Nicolas II or his children. They were totally encrusted with large jewels, impressive mechanisms, gorgeous gold work. Each of them worth a fortune. And all I could really think about is how many people could have been fed with the cost even one of the jewels on them, let alone the whole collection.
It made me think of Versailles, a palace of true decadence and showing off how much fertile land could be wasted on lawns and gardens (sickeningly, also why we have lawns today in the US, another reason I’m incredibly against suburbs), with the equivalent of billions of dollars of art and decorations inside, while people starved in the streets of Paris.
As food stamps and welfare dry up, as people lose their jobs, their dignity, their homes, their health – I just think about how long it will take us. How many hard years ahead of us we have even if the regime fell tomorrow. How we managed to lose the Cold War 35 years after the Soviet union fell to pieces.
I don’t want to hate anyone. Hate takes energy. But I truly, fully, and wholly hate people who voted for him a 3rd time.

Huh…isn’t someone’s new ballroom gonna be looking like this?

Trump’s knowledge of history only goes back to 1930s.

Yeah, but how big was their ballroom?
Half the US won’t understand the similarities
