Anyone ever see that Disney channel movie smart house? Back when I saw it I used to think “this shit would never happen, or that’s wayyyyyy into the future”. Now I think it’s actually possible.

Remember kids! Host your smart home locally. Cloud based ones just give more information away to big tech and gives them agency in something you own!

    3. Nu-uh, not my house. This is half why I self host all of my services like Home Assistant and Immich to name a few. With all of our data being harvested for ai, I made the decision last year to claw back as much control as I could and I’ve never been more happy. A $30 zigbee dongle is the best way to get started imo.

    4. Only noobs use cloud servers lid amazon to control their houses.

The pros who know something about smart homes – run locally.

I use Home assistant – which is free. But plenty of other alternatives exist.

In the Magic and Light documentary they showed how this shot was done without CGI and it’s fascinating.

Oh look my house is on the right or left here because I refuse to put any of that so called smart shit into my house. US-EAST-1 is down? That’s nice, I can still use all of my house just fine.
