It’s clear that the number of passes made by goalkeepers has been rising year on year, with a total increase of 44% between 2017/18 and 2023/24. This reflects the modern expectation that goalkeepers contribute to building play from the back, making ball-playing ability with their feet just as essential as shot-stopping with their hands.
