    1. The comment is absolutely stupid. If no one’s eating out because an obligation to tip, the job goes away along with the restaurant. I tip every time but I understand some can only afford the food. Would rather you have patrons to keep it open so you can get the ones who do tip.

    2. Don’t lie to me then get mad I called you out on it. I will tip less out of spite, not because I can’t afford it.

The fact that it’s suggested but the amounts are off is what the problem is. Yea it’s a dollar or 2 but that’s bad math and off putting.

    4. The person in the picture still tipped 20% and they still say shit like “if you can’t tip don’t eat out”.

I’m really tired of this argument. Tipping culture is ridiculous. Pay your staff living wages.

If the math is wrong, the person is right to correct it. However, the server isn’t at fault for the incorrect slip. That’s on the system the restaurant uses.

I tip at least 20% bc I used to be a server. But we should all collectively stop tipping. Consumers should not be collectively responsible for paying people living wages.

    7. If you think calling out lies is nitpicking, I wouldn’t want to go out to eat with you in the first place.

    8. The pettiness towards a complete stranger would make me not wanna hang out with this person

    9. Na, that would upset me too if I noticed.

And I tip depending on how the service was. If it was bad. I will not tip.

      FYI: I live in Austria.

I just don’t like being lied to. Next I’m going to find out these wings are not from organic buffalo.

This was probably an accident or a glitch or I bet there’s something that isn’t showing the full story but the server probably didn’t see it themselves because it’s not like this is their only table. The point is, don’t denigrate the server with this passive aggressiveness, they didn’t have control over this.

    12. If I were to be in this situation they aren’t getting a tip at all. It’s not my job to pay your employees, especially when you try to do some shady shit like this

    13. this is a hella complicated situation. IMHO, while it’s true that doing something you ain’t really proud of doesn’t make you a criminal for life, dude on the right def looks like he’s crossing into sketchy territory.

    14. Y’all I went to get a firehouse sub the other day, holy shit they are the worst. Tip? First responders? Leukemia foundation? Like NO NO NO FUCK YOU can I buy this sandwich please?

Hell no. If you lying about the tip you are cutting corners on the food too. I’m leaving a bad review and a shit or no tip.

    17. I hate dishonesty….probably would have tipped 0 for them trying to scam me. That’s bad service.

I love people’s penchant for punishing servers for decisions that are way above their head. That said, the server got 20%, so this is the one time I’m not on their side, either.

I stopped tipping. Yall pissed me off and your boss needs to pay you a living wage or build the auto gratuity in the check. I’m paying the bill and leaving. Lying scheming for a couple extra dollars is bs.

    20. I’m an accountant and would’ve caught that the tip totals were off, but wouldn’t have mentioned it because I never tip based on the total after tax (which doesn’t even go to the restaurant).

And based on overall inflation and increased credit card debt, most people can’t afford to be eating out, in 2025.

    21. life hack: get take out. or live in a country in which every customer isn’t expected to supplement staff wages. if the restaurant can’t afford to make adjustments to pay their workers, let them fail fast rather than slowor switch to a different model that they can afford.

    22. Once I started traveling internationally, my attitude towards tipping started to change. Tipping is not the norm in most of the developed world outside of the US/CAN. Most of Europe doesn’t tip, Australia doesn’t tip and accepting a tip in Japan is considered shameful. I’m not interested in doing this dance to figure out how much someone else’s time and effort is worth. That’s their employer’s job. The current percentage/based system makes no sense. Why should a server be paid more because I chose steak over salad. It’s no extra work on their end and they had no influence over that decision that I likely made before even stepping foot into the building. Plus the standard rate increase (10% when my mom was a kid, 15% when I was a kid, now 20% since the pandemic) on top of inflation on the food itself means waiters’ pay has gone up beyond inflation (has yours). Now EVERY business wants in on tipping (who wouldn’t want free money) and I’m fatigued of being begged to tip at every establishment I go to outside of sit-down restaurants. This was not the case just 10 years ago. Not to mention that tipping in America has its roots in (you guessed it) slavery and mistreatment of minorities.

So I’ve reserved myself to tipping only at sit-down restaurants, and only 15% which is what was customary most of my life. But I do so begrudgingly because if nearly every developed country in the world can figure it out then so can the so-called “greatest country on earth”.

    23. Original calculations look right, if the customer was given a 20% discount, but we can’t say for sure without seeing the whole bill.

    24. Nah it’s principal thing at that point. The person was obviously willing to give a standard tip which is more than i would have done if I spotted you being dishonest.
