What is this bug… doing? Looks like it is planting eggs, but also looks like it has a system error

Dragonflies dip their butts in water primarily to breathe; their larvae, or nymphs, have gills located in a rectal chamber that extract oxygen from the water. This unique adaptation allows them to efficiently take in water and oxygen while also using it for jet propulsion to move quickly through their aquatic environment.

    2. Pit it in, take it out, put it in, take it out.

They saw you filing and assumed you’d put a terrible soundtrack overlay to it. It’s trying to bob along to the beat.

Aww thank you for posting this! It’s gotten so cold here lately that I was sad I thought that was it for the dragonflies this year but then one flew right by me earlier and then this!!

Never seen one doing it this vigorously, or where there doesn’t appear to be vegetation. But that’s how they often do it (lay eggs):

However, Gold-Ringed Dragonflies stab into the river bed to lay their eggs, and that looks like she might be doing that.

i guess i never thought about how they lay their eggs but i wouldn’t have ever thought this was the strat.

    7. As lots of people have said, this is a dragonfly laying her eggs. Usually, they skim across the top of the water and dip about every 6 in or so. I don’t know why she’s stuck at the edge. Looks like a glitch in The matrix.

    8. You should YouTube Dragon fly documentary done by Zefrank. It did the exact same thing with interesting narrations, lol

    9. I’m jealous. That’s a very awesome thing to witness. I witnessed a praying mantis mating and the following eating of the male, I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.

    10. You can call her dragonfly (or damselfly; hard to tell on this video). I know her by her colloquial name, snake doctor.

    11. When you have the highest predation success rate in the animal kingdom, you lay your eggs however you damn well please.
