I have never heard them actually talk about what the benefits are

    1. As someone who wasn’t allowed access to warm water as a child (my stepfather shut off the water heater whenever I went into the bathroom) I can give you lots of reasons they’re THE WORST. Watching people choose this and brag about it just boggles my mind.

    2. Helps with inflammation and can’t take hot ones because of heat intolerance, a symptom of my multiple sclerosis.

    3. I’m preparing for apocalypse when the only way I’ll be bathing is in the frozen stream in the mountains I’m going to stake out as my own. lol just kidding. When the apocalypse happens I’ll probably die in the first 5 minutes because I won’t know it started. I actually take cold showers for the benefits that you guys just wouldn’t understand.

helps wake you up, reduces inflammation, and helps to reduce acne as it closes the pores up. which is amazing for after shaving so you dont get ingrowns.

thats as far as i’ll go tho, i usually only end my steamy showers with a couple mins of cold as it helps reduce how much i sweay after one.

    5. It boosts your metabolism, shocks your body into a sympathetic nervous response so you are ready to fight the day, and is actually better for your skin than hot water

    6. I used to work in a freezer (-10°f) for 6+hrs a day, splashing super cold shower helped my body acclimate and adjust to the cold. That’s the only benefit I’ve encountered and I did it for roughly a year.

I mean the health benefits are mostly bull, but they are very nice in the summer if you don’t have good AC, also good after a workout. They are a good way to wake up as well, and immediately putting yourself through something challenging I think is a good way to set yourself up for the day. I also personally find they improve my mood, and although I don’t feel good in the shower I feel great after (kind of the opposite of a warm shower). There also are some small benefits for your skin and muscles, but your results may very and it could be mostly plecibo. Still, there are a lot of good reasons to try them aside from just bragging, and it can be kind of nice during winter to have an actual tangible biological resistance to the cold. Personally I mostly do warm showers, but cold ones still have their place outside of manosphere crap

Literally every professional athlete will tout the benefits of cold water/ice. It’s not a secret.

Once after a cold shower, I felt euphoric for quite some time. I never took drugs, but imagine that’s how you feel on them. It was nothing but cold water on skin

Apart from that, I generally feel good after them

They reduce inflammation (which is typically bad btw do your research) medicine is moving away from cold therapy to heat therapy because improving blood flow is better than constricting it

    11. Cold shock proteins (CSPs)

      * **What they are:** A group of proteins that are triggered by a rapid drop in temperature. They are a cellular “first-aid” response to cold or other stresses.
      * **How they work:** They bind to single-stranded DNA and RNA to help regulate gene expression and translation, protecting essential nucleic acids from damage.
      * **Benefits in humans:**
      * **Neuroprotection:** Support brain health and may protect neurons and synapses.
      * **Inflammation:** Help reduce or regulate inflammation.
      * **Metabolism:** May boost metabolism and increase calorie burning by stimulating brown adipose tissue (BAT).
      * **Other functions:** Help with skin wound healing, immune function, and circadian rhythm regulation.
      * **How to trigger them:** Exposure to cold through methods like cold showers, ice baths, or outdoor activities can encourage the release of CSPs.

    12. I mildly subscribe to the benefits of them but let’s be honest they’re a drop in the bucket compared to good practices around diet and exercise.

That’s said, it just helps ya wake up. Warm showers put me back to bed and prolong the sleepy feeling.

I don’t care if a cold shower would cure my autism, it’s uncomfortable and I don’t like it, I like warmth, am lizard.
