YYYY/MM/DD and DD/MM/YYYY are both normal since they go either ascending or descending order. MM/DD/YYYY is the illogical one.

    2. Yyyy/mm/DD is perfectly fine, especially for sorting files. Good luck finding something from 4 years ago when you have tens of thousands of folders to go though and they sort by fucking day of the month

For the people freaking out over the, “illogical use,” of the mmddyyyy format, it’s because that is how dates are listed in vernacular where said format is used.

I.e., “When did that happen?” “Oh! January 2nd, 1982!”

So that’s how dates are transcribed.

      It’s not that deep y’all.

    4. I’m genuinely confused, there’s actual discourse on the order of dates? Like, I’ve seen these fights outside of here.

    5. at least you guys only have to remember the Gregorian year format.

me living in a country that uses 年月日 and also have to remember that 2025 is also 令和7年 because they use both

For some languages YYYY/MM/DD makes more sense than DD/MM/YYYY, they’re both normal and perfectly fine. MM/DD/YYYY makes no sense though.

    7. YYYYMMDD is objectively the best method. When sorting files labelled this way alphabetically, it also sorts by date.

    8. Nah, YYYY/MM/DD is also fine (or even better, depending on the situation).
The only weirdo here is MM/DD/YYYY

For human readability DDMMYYYY is best.

For file sorting, YYYYMMDD is best.

      Americans are just psychos

    10. Dd/mm/yyyy is what i use normaly and its normal in my country. Yyyy/mm/dd is often used for documents for sorting purposes. Both make sense. From shortest time (day) going up to the longest (year) or other way round make both sense. But middle short long? Who thought of that had some problems lol

    11. Month should always be in the middle, with Computers you’d have the year first as whensorting them, you ou put the broadest factor first and get more specific as it goes. In real life, day would be first, though, since that’s the factor that changes most often

      I like using DD/MM/YYYY
why? because if i read it sounds medivial and i find it funny

“in the 13th of March, year of our lord 2025” 🤣
