I have a single hair that is much thicker & wirey than any other strand on my head

    1. Is it coming out of a mole, I wonder? It reminds me of the difference between my mole and non-mole body hairs.

    2. I have a little patch of hairs like that toward the back of my head but they’re all completely grey. They’ve been there since childhood

    3. I’ve got one too. It seems to grow super fast as well, considering I have multiple memories of pulling it out, and yet it shows up about once a year.

Do you color your hair? If so, it’s probably a grey hair. I color mine and if I find a thick wirey one and pull it out, the root is gray

    5. I had that a couple years ago, steadily got more and more of them and now a couple of greys. I think it’s just a precursor to greying? Happy to learn whatever terrible disease reddit will diagnose me with

    6. I have this from time to time!! One really coarse strand among a sea of “regular” ones. That and the occasional super coiled one. My hair is a little wavy but not curly curly, aside from rogue strands.

    7. Probably from a mole on your scalp. I’ve got one (I cut my hair very short, 2 or 3 on clipper guards) and the hair from my mole not only grows faster, it’s super thick and curls up whereas the rest of my hair grows completely straight. Thankfully not super noticeable unless looking for it lol.

    8. Well… ya got me. As I was scrolling your post popped up. I started blowing on my screen thinking one of my hairs fell on it.

    9. As far as we know it’s a harmless genetic change. But, the frustrating part is that because it’s such a minor, harmless thing, there hasn’t been much research funding dedicated to figuring out exactly why individual follicles go rogue.

It falls into the category of “benign biological mysteries” that science hasn’t fully solved yet. There are plenty of ideas, but not many answers.
